Originally the site of the Shipwright Arms Hotel, a recent full refurbishment now sees the interiors fitted out in designer style and comfort. History

Balmain Wharf Apartments are situated in a historic building that dates back to the 1800s. It was built by shipwright John Bell, who operated his shipwrights yard at Darling Harbour. The Shipwright's Arms was one of the first licensed establishments in Balmain, and one of the few by the water. It is the first building in Balmain's main street and was a former favourite for sea goers having a late night drink. The elegant sandstone building was leased in 1844 to William Walker and renamed in 1846 as The Dolphin Hotel. The premises continued to serve ferry travellers and locals until it was de-licensed in 1966. It has since been used for private residential and commercial purposes.

The sandstone walls are as they were back in the 1800s and the structure of the building has remained largely unchanged to preserve its original character. There are no longer the tram tracks that once ran up and down Darling Street, but the ferry service out the front door is a strong reminder of the history of the area.
