National Accommodation Star Rating Scheme
The official STAR Rating Scheme in Australia is operated by AAA Tourism, the independent national tourism body of Australia's Auto Clubs. STAR Ratings provide consistent ratings for over 10,000 accommodation properties throughout Australia, and over 500 criteria are used to assess a property and determine its Rating between one and five STARS as follows:
Hotel, Motel and Apartment Hotel Ratings
5 star
International standard with a high degree of facilities and outstanding appointments, furnishings and decor. Featuring an extensive range of first class guest services and a number and variety of room styles and/or suites, features a choice of dining facilities, 24 hour room service, housekeeping, valet parking, porterage and concierge services.
4 star
Exceptionally well appointed with a high level of facilities and quality furnishings. High degree of comfort, presentation and guest services provided.
3 star
Well appointed offering a comfortable standard of accommodation with above average furnishings and floor coverings.
2 star
Well maintained with an average standard of furnishings, bedding and floor coverings.
1 star
Basic standard and simply furnished. Resident manager.

Moderate, clean establishment that is reasonably well maintained.

Basic, clean establishment with basic amenities.
What do half STARS mean?
An additional half STAR indicates properties offering a similar standard to the appropriate full STAR rating, but providing more comfort through additional features and items.
