Things To Do
Glenorchy offers a wealth of outdoor activities and attractions, as well as being one of the locations for filming of the 'Lord of the Rings' movie.
Glenorchy is the gateway for a number of internationally recognised walking tracks including the Caples, Greenstone and Routeburn Tracks as well as the Rees and Dart Valleys. We can arrange transport to all of the tracks.
Glenorchy also offers great fishing, with expert fly fishing guides available to show you some of the finest lake and river fishing around. The Lake is open for fishing year round, whilst fly fishing is available in season November to April only.
Situated at the head of Lake Wakatipu, Glenorchy is also an ideal location for some water fun. Choose from a wilderness jetboat ride up the Dart River or a more leisurely paddle in a Fun Yak or kayak or canoe.
Experience the breathtaking scenery surrounding Glenorchy on horseback with a horse trek. Combinations with jet boat and canoe trips are also available (see below).
For the more adventurous, you can climb some challenging peaks surrounding Glenorchy, including Mount Earnslaw.
Hunting is also available with expert guides available for deer and goat hunting trips.
The Invincible ski field, located in the Rees Valley offers personalised heli-skiing in the winter and eco-adventures in summer.
Glenorchy is also host to a number of events, including the Glenorchy Horse Races, Queenstown Marathon and Routeburn Rage.
